THE Horror Bulls roller derby team are set to re-enter the British Championships next year following a year out.

The side, who were ranked 30th in the UK and 90th in Europe, decided to take a break and focus on developing the squad on a long-term basis.

Club founder and coach Zoe Butler now believes the Horror Bulls are ready to try again next year.

"We’ve built a strong, solid team over the past year and are looking forward to competing once again," she said.

"Our Christmas game will be the perfect way to sign off an extremely positive year."

That match is against Barnstaple's Grin 'n' Barum and will take place at the Hereford Academy this Saturday.

The Horror Bulls go into it on the back of a narrow 198-173 loss to Wiltshire Roller Derby, but they beat Bristol Bees 206-188 when they last played at home.

Prior to that, the Hereford Poison Berries – who will play under the festive name the Holly Berries – will play a competitive game for the very first time.

The juniors will challenge the hybrid team of Devon Dash All Star Hitters (DASH) and Sheffield Steel Juniors Rollers, who will be playing together as 'Poison Ivy'.

Both teams have similar levels of experience, with Hereford fielding two debutants alongside their more experienced players.

Doors open at 11.30am, with the first whistle at 12.30pm.

Admission is £8, with free entry for children under 12.
