A GOAL from Jess Goodwin was enough for Presteigne to beat Gwent Seconds 1-0 in Premier 2 of the South Wales Women's Hockey League.

Some excellent passing allowed Presteigne to make some good ground on the Gwent defence.

Several attempts at finding the goal were made by Meg Cosgrove, Goodwin and Charlie Morris, but the Gwent goalkeeper proved to be strong.

The second half saw Gwent put Presteigne's defence under pressure, making it difficult for their attack to make inroads.

But that did not dampen Presteigne's determination and, after some battling in the circle, the winning goal finally came.

Presteigne, who awarded Ellie Williams the player of the match, face Ludlow this Sunday in the Marches League.

In Division One, Kington beat Radnor 1-0.

Meanwhile, Hereford and Ross-on-Wye both won their respective matches 3-1 in De Cymru & The Marches 1 of the GoCrea8 Hockey League.

Hereford beat Lansdown, while Ross saw off Lydney.

The wins mean they are fifth and sixth respectively in the division.

Leominster, who are eighth, drew 2-2 with Aberystwyth University.

This Saturday sees the last set of fixtures before the festive break.

Hereford's are away at Cardiff University, Ross go to Cirencester and Leominster host Bridgend.

In The Marches 1, Hereford Seconds were comfortably beaten 5-2 by Lansdown Seconds, while Leominster Seconds went down 2-0 at home to Lansdown Thirds.
