HEREFORD FC manager Pete Beadle says it is imperative he has players with the right character and attitude at the club if they are to win the Southern Football League Division One South & West title.

The Bulls are the only unbeaten side in the top nine tiers of English football having won 16 of their 18 games this season.

However, Evesham United have also amassed 11 wins in a row and the current top two sides square up at Edgar Street on January 2.

“We’re not a run-of-the-mill non-league side, the expectations here are huge,” said Beadle.

“We look for a different type of player who understands the situation and want to do well here.

“Players have sat on the bench, but know the reason why and that, when they are given an opportunity, it’s up to them to take it.”

Full-back Adam Davies has left Hereford to join his former club Merthyr Town and the Bulls says he is disappointed with the way Davies handled the move.

“Steve Jenkins had a text on the Thursday before the Bridgwater game stating his reasons, but I don’t believe them and think it’s a bit of a cover up," said Beadle.

“He knew what was expected of him when we signed him so for him to say what he has, I find incredible.

"We even paid him a bit of money when we hasn’t playing because he was waiting for his international clearance, so the least he can do is have the courtesy to ring me and give his reasons.”

Hereford host Salisbury tomorrow looking to avenge the FA Trophy defeat against Steve Claridge’s side earlier this season.

“In the first half of the game, we were good and at 2-1 up, we controlled the game,” added Beadle.

“But then we gave away some poor goals and they came out on top.

"They have been in a similar situation to ourselves in the last 18 months.

"Both are fledging clubs who are in their second season and they’ve also got a good following.

"They have played in the Conference and have aspirations of returning there, like we have.

“Our lads are in good form and confident, and are scoring goals and keeping clean sheets.

“We’re almost halfway through the season and haven’t lost yet, but we won’t rest on our laurels.

“It’s important we still do our homework and and prepare in the right way give every team the respect they deserve.”
