FORMER Manchester United and Aston Villa manager Ron Atkinson says he hopes Westfields beat Leiston in the FA Cup this Saturday.

Atkinson, who won the competition twice while manager of United, was Westfields' special guest for their annual Sportsman's Dinner at the Three Counties Hotel last week.

And he says the FA Cup is still the best domestic competition in the world.

"I know fans who would rather their club win the FA Cup," said Atkinson.

"We all caught up with it, with the excitement of it all.

"When non-league teams do well, it adds to the excitement and gives everyone a lift."

Atkinson said he was delighted to attend the dinner.

"It was a fantastic night and obviously fell at the right time with the team doing so well and with their cup run," he said.

"There's some smashing people here and I've had a really good night."

Atkinson, who signed a Manchester United shirt to go in the auction, spoke candidly about his time at Old Trafford and Villa Park and said the Football Association should employ an English manager to replace Sam Allardyce.

Comedian Gary Marshall also entertained guests, with the auction raising more than £2,200.
