WESTFIELDS manager Sean Edwards says there is no reason why his side cannot beat higher-graded St Ives Town in the FA Cup this season following a blistering start to the season.

The allpay.park side are flying at the top of the Midland Football League Premier Division having won all of their opening five games and scoring 17 goals in the process.

St Ives are in 10th place in the Southern Football League Premier Division.

"We want to get through to the next round of the FA Cup and I've never gone far in the competition," said Edwards.

"The Midland Football League is a strong league and if we can carry the momentum we have got in the league and the fact that we're home, then we've got a chance.

"But they will be overwhelming favourites."

Edwards added that the key to his side's form is that every player is contributing and the new recruits have fitted in well.

"Sam Rawlings at right back has been a revelation and Kieron Blackburn has been great in goal," he said.

"Dan Polan and Jamie Molyneux may get the headlines, but even though Richard Greaves has not been scoring the goals, his work rate has given other people the opportunity to score.

"Everyone is playing a part whether starting or coming off the bench."

Westfields go into the game on the back of an excellent Bank Holiday weekend.

Edwards' side thrashed Heanor Town 5-1 before whipping Stourport Swifts 5-0.

Jamie Molyneux scored twice in the first half against Heanor before Craig Jones made it 3-0 in the 68th minute.

Dan Polan added two late goals to complete the rout.

James Febery then opened the scoring in the match against Stourport in the 36th minute before Aidan Thomas doubled the advantage two minutes later.

Polan, Dylan Bonella and Molyneux added further goals after the break.

Last Wednesday, Molyneux struck in a 1-0 over Boldmere St Michaels.

Saturday's kick-off is at 3pm and Westfields want as many people as possible to cheer them on.
