KINGTON Golf Club celebrated their 90th anniversary with a festival of golf" week.

The picturesque 18-hole course is the highest in the country, with views aplenty.

The week incorporated a number of competitions, beginning with the annual 36-hole Men's Amateur Championships.

A total of 50 players representing golf clubs from across the region competed for Kington Open, with 18 prizes awarded on the day.

Dan Morris of Burghill Valley Golf came top in the open nett competition, accumulating a score of 137

Second was Michael Green of Kington, with Gordon Glover (Kington), Tony House (Kington) and David Morris (Burghill Valley) completing the top five.

The open gross competition was won by home player Josh Davies, who completed two rounds of 74 and 77.

Second was Gareth ones (Builth Wells), with MattWeaver (Kington), Tom Mills (Builth Wells) and Nick Apperley (Ludlow) finishing third to fifth respectively.

The morning round incorporated the Madigan Cup, which was won by Garry Moore.

The Open Four-Ball Texas Scramble, meanwhile, was won by Kington's Josh Davies, Graham Priday, Ross Moore and TRony House, who pipped fellow home players Michael Green, Rob Price, Colin Miles and Roger Matthews.

A rolling individual stableford was also held throughout the week, which was won by Kington's Jon Watkins.

"The course has entertained over 400 rounds of competitive golf within the week and has received a great deal of praise regarding its first class condition from visitors and members and plans are being made to run a festival of golf next year," said club spokesman Phil Jones."
