GREYHOUND Rugby Club have taken over the day-to-day running of Hereford City Sports Club (HCSC).

As reported by the Hereford Times last December, an extraordinary general meeting was held to discuss the future of the Grandstand Road site, with Greyhound taking it on one of the options.

"It's now been signed, sealed and delivered and we have taken on the debts and outstanding bills," said Greyhound spokesman Barry Morris.

"Before Christmas when the doors were locked, we looked like we wouldn't have a home.

"But, with the men's, ladies and minis growing, I feel really positive about it.

"There are a few things to sort out, but we're getting there.

"Everybody is getting involved and volunteering behind the bar.

"The club will be 40 years old next year, so it's come at the right time.

"It's really pleasing and I want to thank Matthew Hayes of Harrison Clark Rickerbys Solicitors, who was amazing and helped us with the legal stuff."

From the 1960s to 1980s, HCSC was one of the biggest sports clubs in the county.

It staged first class cricket matches and, at one time, ran four Saturday cricket teams - establishing itself as one of the most successful clubs in the sport in Herefordshire.

But the number of sportspeople using the site diminished through the 1990s and, last year, Hereford Hockey Club took to their website to express the need to increase revenue at HCSC.
