BROMYARD Rifle Club celebrated their diamond jubilee with a dinner at the Falcon Hotel.

The club was formed as Miniature Small-Bore Club in 1946and many of their early members were ex-Home Guard.

Reformed as the present club ten years later, the first ranges used were the Drill Hall and some converted hay lofts behind the Hop Pole Hotel, with outdoor shooting took place on a local farm.

With the need for a more permanent site, the next 60 years saw the purchase of the existing land at Broadbridge and the construction of the existing ranges and clubhouse.

The club has overcome many setbacks including flooding but the recent addition of drainage is proving to be successful.

It currently experiencing a strong membership with the addition of an air weapons section led by Dan Walters.

In the prone rifle section, Lee Web is currently club champion, county champion, Worcestershire champion and Gloucestershire champion and is following in the footsteps of other Bromyard Club members, such as Percy Phillips, England and British Champion and Robin Hughes who has shot for Great Britain on several occasions and has represented Wales many times.

Club chairman Graham Povey thanked everyone who had contributed to the success of the club, while Trevor Horsfield, chairman of the Hereford Target Shooting Association and former member of the Bromyard club addressed the diners.

Awards were then handed out, with the NSRA 20 year Distinguished Service prize being presented to club secretary Robin Hughes.

Club and match secretary Graham Grimwade then announced the winner of shooting awards to Sylwia Gogulewicz, Duncan Douglas, Lee Web, Ian Dampney, Henry Nickless and Dan Walters.
