A YOUNG cricketer is used to getting off to a good start.

Thirteen-year-old Charlie Williams has already captained his County age-group side and has secured a scholarship to Malvern College for his cricket.

And the opener has now achieved the rare feat of hitting a ton in a senior league fixture after blasting 110 for Woolhope 2nd in a Marches League clash at Luctonians 3rd.

"It was his highest score to date," said Stewart Williams, Charlie's dad and captain of Woolhope 2nd.

"It was a batting track but he batted beautifully and didn't give the opposition any chances."

The youngster, who goes to Bishop's School in Hereford, has been an ever present in the village side this term.

"He hit 84 for the County Under 12 last year but this is the first time he's got to three figures," his dad added.

"He played most of last season for the Seconds and hasn't missed a game this season. He's cricket mad."

Williams' century wasn't the only three-figure score that day. Luctonians opener Dan Fenwick-Lofts hit an unbeaten 109, although it was Woolhope who secured a winning draw.
