MATT Bishop says it was a tough decision to leave Hereford FC but he felt he had to do it.

The popular number two has struggled to combine his full-time work with the English FA with the Bulls at times this season and said it would not be fair to stay at the club if he could not give 100 per cent commitment, especially as there would be more travelling next season.

Bishop has since agreed to become the new manager of Aberystwyth Town.

"I didn't think it was fair on Peter or the team if I couldn't commit 100 per cent to the cause," said Bishop.

"It was very strange on Monday during the parade knowing that I was going while everyone was happy and celebrating.

"I have left for family and work reasons, nothing else.

"It's never been about money and I didn't want a contract.

"If Peter had left for whatever reason, I would have left as well – that's normally what happens.

"Peter has done a wonderful job with Roger [Lloyd] and Jonny [Evans] and needed that support.

"He needs that extra body on the touchline to help the team, so it wouldn't have been fair on him if I ended up missing 10 games.

"But I don't regret coming to the club.

"Hereford was a part-time role alongside my full-time job, but I wouldn't have changed it for the world.

"The biggest thing for me is that I have made many friends and had a great relationship with Peter.

"I'm going to be working at Aberystwyth, which is 10 minutes from my home, and there will be advantages in that the Welsh Premier League only has 32 league games and teams play regularly on Friday nights and Sunday afternoons."
