WESTFIELDS manager Sean Edwards admits the club may think he is not the person to turn around their fortunes next season.

Edwards has had a 15-year involvement with Westfields, guiding them to back-to-back runner-up spots in 2012 and 2013.

But this campaign has been highly disappointing and the allpay.park club have had to watch city rivals Hereford FC romp to the Midland Football League Premier Division crown.

"We'll have to wait and see, it may be not my decision, it might be the club's decision that, after so long now, it needs a fresh person at the helm," said Edwards.

"We've not been fit enough and strong enough and haven't had enough consistency from players.

"Hence why we haven't got players who are 100 per cent fit.

"When you're relying on a very small squad and players that aren't up to match fitness and you try and coax them through the last two or three weeks, fitness is always going to be a problem for us."

Westfields' five-year stranglehold of the HFA County Challenge Cup came to an end on Monday after Hereford FC comfortably beat them in the final at Edgar Street.

It was the Bull's second trophy in a week and they can add to their collection this Tuesday when they face Walsall Wood in the final of the Polymac Packaging Midland Football League Cup. Edwards admits Hereford have set the benchmark.

"They are at where we want to be," added Edwards.

"We were there a couple of years ago, finishing runners-up with a really strong squad.

"We've had to rebuild with a lot of young lads.

"But you add that with the injuries and players not being 100 per cent fit, you've got to pick what you've got.

"I'm gutted to lose the run we've had, because we've won it for five years running.

"I've won it 10 times as a manager, but we'll bounce back next year and they'll push on through the leagues.

"Hereford needs a professional club, because Westfields benefit from the players.

"I, like a lot of supporters, turned up last year thinking there wouldn't be a football club, so for them to have a team like they have put on the pitch now is a great credit and special praise to all the people involved, particularly Peter Beadle and his staff.

"It's all right having the crowd, but you've got to pick the players and throughout the season, he has made the right decisions."
