A NATIONAL motocross championship heads to Pontrilas this weekend.

Riders from across the UK will take to Howton Court to compete in the second round of the Michelin MX Nationals.

There will be seven race classes, ranging from youth to professional, across the two days, making a total of 26 races.

The action gets underway at 11am on Saturday, with racing on Sunday commencing at 9.30am.

The first round took place at Preston Docks, with Graeme Irwin taking the red plate into round two in the MX1 class and Martin Barr leading the MX2 Championship.

"It was a really good weekend at Preston Docks for me and I'm really happy with the way I rode there," said Irwin.

"It is really good that the MX Nationals team managed to reschedule and relocate round two to Pontrilas and I am excited to go there with the red plate."

Barr added: "It was a good start to the MX Nationals season for me at the opener at Preston Docks.

"I'm looking at some more good results at Pontrilas and eager to support the MX Nationals team again this weekend."

The youth classes also had a good showing of extremely fast, young, up and coming riders in the first round and they are eager to get to race two at Pontrilas.

In the Talon MXY2 class, it is Mickey Ellis who is leading the series.

"I thought Preston was a really good track, it was well prepped and I was happy to win the overall there," he said.

"I am really excited about racing at Pontrilas as it is a great circuit."

The trade area will have casual wear and food outlets, as well as a licensed bar and a bouncy castle.

A weekend adult pass costs £10, with the venue's postcode being HR2 0BG.
