HEREFORD Under-15s are through to the final of the JPL National Cup after beating Newport 2-1 at Edgar Street.

A number of supporters watched the young Bulls in action and saw them take the lead through Liam Bishop, only for the goal to be disallowed for offside. Newport then took control and, after a defensive mistake, broke away to go 1-0 up.

Hereford played some much better football after the break and controlled the game for long periods, restricting Newport to very little time on the ball.

It did not take long for Hereford to equalise when Jake Spink received a pass from Luke Marston and fired the ball into the bottom corner.

Despite Newport having few chances on goal, they were dangerous from set-pieces, not helped by Hereford giving away free-kicks on the edge of the area. Hereford had a lot of possession and started creating a number of chances.

And they eventually did score with 15 minutes to go.

Bishop was once again the scorer, firing the ball into the top corner in front of the Meadow End.

Hereford held on for the win, with the final taking place at Lilleshall next Saturday (May 14).

The kick-off time and opposition has still be decided.

"Overall, both teams took a while to settle down in the environment but produced an exciting, very competitive game and for Hereford, it was a great comeback to win 2-1," said Hereford coach Liam Brewer.

"They battled hard, had to adapt their style of play and did what was needed to win the game.

"It's a fantastic achievement for a team who didn’t even qualify for the cup competition last yer.

"A year on and they're in the final."
