PEGASUS Juniors gained an excellent 1-0 win against West Midlands (Regional) League Premier Division leaders Shawbury United.

Cory Hyde scored the only goal five minutes from time against a Shawbury side who went into the game having only lost four games all season.

Although the first half was goalless, there was some good football played, with the visitors showing why they are top of the table.

However, goal scoring opportunities were limited with the visitors having the lion’s share of possession.

In the 28th minute, Shawbury should have taken the lead when the home defence appealed for an offside decision.

This was denied and allowed an unchallenged Stuart Ellis to race into the penalty area where his shot was blocked by the legs Jason Davies, deputising for Nathan Phillips, who is side lined for the remainder of the season through injury.

Minutes later, Anthony Robbins forced visiting goalkeeper Matthew Ballard to push the ball away for a corner kick from his shot of fully twenty five yards.

From the resulting corner, Josh Emery and Robbins combined for Luke Griffiths to fire the ball through the crowded penalty area but, wide of the goal.

Pegasus gradually got into the game as the second half progressed, with Emery, Robbins, Griffiths and Liam Taylor starting to take control of the midfield area a

In the 72nd minute, Liam Taylor, Hyde, Emery and Griffiths combined to release Sam Phillips but under pressure from James Askey his shot went inches wide of the upright.

But Pegasus did grab the winner when Hyde hit a 25 yard curling shot into the far corner of the net.

Wellington also won at the weekend, beating Bilston Town Community 1-0.

Both teams missed good chances in the game, with Wellington goalkeeper Cris Mancui being awarded the man-of-the-match thanks to a string of fine saves.

The first one came after 10 minutes when he pushed the ball round a post.

Welly then had a good chance but Josh Hunt shot wide before he was brought down for a penalty.

Paul Jones duly dispatched the spot-kick.

Jones then pulled the ball back to Hunt, but the Wellington striker fired wide from an open goal.

The second half was then an end-to-end affair, with Glen Segust missing two good chances for Wellington.

Andy Price also shot wide from close range before Mancui pulled off two great saves in the last 10 minutes.

Bromyard Town gained another point in their fight to stay in the division thanks to a 0-0 draw against Bewdley Town.
