GREYHOUND Rugby Club served up a treat for supporters on Saturday, despite the appalling weather.

The men's played Ledbury's seconds in a friendly, while the new social club entertained Monmouth.

"The first team lost 3-0 and the rain was awful," said Greyhound spokesman Barry Morris.

"The new social XV also lost 34-7 to Monmouth, which was a mix of first and second team players.

Matthew Gwynne grabbed Greyhound's solitary try, converted by Adam Preece.

"But our side haven't played together before, so it is was a good test.

"We are lucky that we have got a brilliant pitch and, including players, there were 150 people in the bar afterwards."

Greyhound Ladies were also due to have a match on Saturday, but both Sutton Coldfield and Telford pulled put.

Nevertheless, the Ladies still took part in a Sevens' training session.

"They are looking to go into the Development League next year so need games," added Morris.

"Four teams have pulled out of games against them, which of course isn't ideal."

This Saturday, Greyhound's first team travel to Warley in Midlands 5 West (North).

"We've got a lot of new players who haven't played together before, so we're just hoping to consolidate this season," said Morris.
