WELLINGTON manager Derek Williams said it was nice to get a game on despite losing 6-3 to lower-graded AFC Ludlow on Saturday.

The villagers were due to face AFC Bridgnorth in the West Midlands (Regional) League Premier Division, but as with all other games in the county, it was called off due to a waterlogged pitch.

However, a friendly was arranged at Division One side Ludlow, with the match played on a 3G surface.

Ludlow, who are top of their division, stormed into a 6-0 lead, before Welly pulled three goals back through Josh Hunt, Saul Thomas and Ben Thomas.

Williams said the match was arranged due to former Welly player Steve Brotherwood now being on Ludlow's books.

"The weather was atrocious and, to be honest, it meant more to them than us," admitted Williams.

"But we got a game, which was the most important thing."

Wellington are due to face Wellington Amateurs in the Premier Division on Wednesday before they go to Bilston Town Community this Saturday.
