LUCTONIANS director of rugby Alex Davidson hopes his side have turned the corner after claiming a vital 32-11 win against fellow National league 2 North strugglers Broadstreet.

The Kingsland side are now second-from-bottom in the division and will have a real chance of staying in it if they beat South Leicester this Saturday and Tynedale the following week.

"It was a good weekend overall because the seconds and thirds also won as did the Colts," said Davidson.

"We have leapfrogged Broadstreet and Huddersfield are next in our sights.

"Looking at the league positions, it is a winnable game against South Leicester, especially if we perform as we did against Broadstreet.

"We then make the long trip to Tynedale, which adds something different.

"I have said that we needed three or four wins before Christmas to give us more confidence and I still believe that.

"It was very disappointing to draw at Caldy and not back it up at home against Preston, so this will a real test to see if we have turned the corner."

Davidson felt the return of winger Jimmy Norris and having Alex Smith at inside-centre helped the team.

"Jimmy gives us a target for our defence to play out wide and he made a difference being in the side," said Davidson.

Broadstreet opened the scoring after three minutes when Lee Chapman kicked over a penalty before John Kelly set up Will Hodnett to crash over to put Lucs 5-3 ahead.

Luctonians increased their lead on 14 minutes when, after eight phases of play, Dale Garner charged over.

Louis Silver converted the try and added two penalties to take Lucs into the half-time break 18-6 in front; Chapman kicked over another penalty for Broadstreet.

With the wind at their backs, the home side were a tougher side to break down and had the ball on the Luctonians line several times, but couldn't get it over.

Broadstreet were rewarded though in the 63rd minute when Aaron Martin bundled the ball over from a ruck.

But it was Lucs who kicked on and grabbed two further tries thanks to Geraint Langdon and Joe Doyle and earn a bonus point win; Silver added the extras.
