LUCTONIANS director of rugby Alex Davidson says his side haven't lost confidence despite slipping to their fourth defeat of the season.

Despite tries from Geraint Langdon, Rhyan Scott-Young and Jimmy Norris, Lucs came away from their visit to table toppers Sedgley Park with a 53-28 loss.

The result keeps them second-bottom in National 2 North ahead of this weekend's home clash with Chester - a game Davidson hopes will turn their fortunes around.

"Hopefully the Mortimer Park effect will help us," he said.

"We haven't lost confidence from the Sedgley game."

Davidson felt Sedgley will be challenging for the title at the end of the season and thought his side gave a good account of themselves in Manchester.

"They're top for a reason," he said.

"But we were definitely in the game at half time.

"They just have one of those benches where everyone looks as though they will impact the game."

The visitors started brightly with two early Langdon penalties nudging his side ahead before Sedgley Park responded with two converted tries in the space of six minutes, although Langdon added another penalty in between.

Lucs then came into the game and Langdon helped himself to a try which he duly converted before Sedgley added a penalty to lead 17-16 at the interval.

After the break, the game opened up and Sedgley were able to add a further a five tries, four of which were converted.

Luctonians, however, weren't finished either and Scott-Young and Norris gave them a glimmer of hope with a try each but the county side weren't able to catch the impressive league leaders.

Elsewhere in the county, Greyhound failed to carry their recent winning streak into the preliminary round of the Midlands Junior Vase as they lost 52-3 to Bishop's Castle & Olney in the first round.

The result was a setback for the city side who went into the match having won all three of their Midlands 5 West (North) matches this campaign.

They will be looking to return to winning ways this Saturday when they return to league action by travelling to Essington in Midlands 5 West (North).

Ross-on-Wye also return to league action this weekend when they travel to Westbury-on-Severn in South West Division Gloucester 2.
