SUPERSUB Phil Glover fired a stoppage winner to send Westfields into the next round of the FA Vase.

The allpay park club came out on top following a five-goal thriller which looked set for extra time until Glover popped up to fire home the 94th minute winner.

The seesaw clash saw opponents Littleton, who ply their trade a division below Westfields, pose some problems for the home side and having reached parity from 2-0 down it looked as though the Worcestershire outfit might have nicked it.

But Glover, who came on as a first half substitute for the injured Aidan Thomas, had other ideas.

"Obviously it's great to get through," said Glover afterwards.

"We started well and went 2-0. We thought it was the perfect time to get the second goal just before the break, but then they scored right on half time.

"They were a good side with some decent players, particularly their number nine."

Glover said extra time had crept into their minds before his dramatic winner.

"We were thinking about the extra 30 minutes," he said.

"But we thought we would go for it and got our reward."

Glover's winner was set-up by another sub, Jake Robinson, whose marauding run led to a save from visiting goalkeeper Haydn Whitcombe before the rebound fell into Glover's path and he could miss from eight yards.

"It was a great run by Jake," said Glover.

"It's great to score again. It's the third time I've done so in the last four games I've come on as a sub."

Littleton, who have won seven of their nine league games so far this season, scoring 23 goals, started brightly.

Striker Jamie Clarke's attempted lob was well claimed by Jon Pugh in the Westfields goal, while at the other end Thomas dragged a shot wide.

The breakthrough came on 21 minutes though when Matt Reeve received the ball in the box and, while falling to the ground, managed to swivel and poke the ball into the bottom corner of the net.

Both sides continued to create chances, with Craig Jones firing over for the home side before James Febery unleashed a vicious shot which was blocked.

Westfields did double the lead three minutes before the break when Ekeye Amadi cut in from the right and guided the ball past Whitcombe.

But no sooner had the city side gained a two-goal cushion than Littleton had halved the deficit when Dan Halloway burst through to fire past Pugh.

That goal understandably gave the visitors hope and should have drawn level on 55 minutes when Halloway was put through only to see his lob bounce back off a post and cleared to safety.

They didn't have to wait long for the equaliser though as captain Calum Clarke fired in his side's second goal to set up a grandstand finish.

In truth, Halloway should have booked Littleton's place in the next round but blasted wide when well placed, leaving Glover to win it for Westfields with his late strike.

"It would be good to have a run in the Vase," added Glover.

"I was part of the team which went to Morpeth a couple of years ago and it would be good to do that again.

"Our league form has been a bit stop-start so hopefully we can take this into the league."

If they are to find their feet in the league, this Saturday would be as good a time as any.

Fields, who are currently 19th in the league, have won just one of their eight league fixtures to date. They travel to top-of-the-table Heanor this weekend who have lost just once - a thumping 7-2 home defeat to Hereford.
