THE son and father crew of Kevin and Mike Pugh have claimed a class win in the BTRDA Class N3 Championship.

The county duo took part in the Woodpecker Rally in Ludlow and needed to ensure a finish to move into second place.

Things were looking good after two stages when they were heading the leaderboard in the class and lying 96th overall having started 146th.

However, the runs through New Radnor and Cym y Gerwyn saw them slip to 108th, but still holding the class lead.

A change of tyres at service and a few suspension changes meant the car was much better and the pair climbed back to finish 97th overall and first of the N3 registered contenders.

Their success saw the Pughs receive a set of Mintex brake pads for the most improved car on their seeding.

The result means they cannot be overtaken for runners-up in the championship, which is a good finish because the car was new to them at the end of last season and they had only competed in it in one event.

The next outing for the Fiat crew is hopefully the Network Q Wales Rally GB three-day national event next month and another chance to compete on the same stages as the new world champion Sebastian Ogier and all the WRC stars.
