LUCTONIANS director of rugby Alex Davidson said he was delighted that the club picked up their first win of the season against Huddersfield.

"There is always a bit of self doubt, I have been saying for a few weeks that we've only been performing at 40 to 50 per cent, but we actually stuck to the game plan and come away with a good win against a side who have played a couple of games recently and played very well," said Davidson.

"The set piece settled down and we didn't make as many fundamental errors early on.

"There were still four or five that I was not too happy about but after that we started to play and stuck to our game plan which stood us in good stead and we ran in four tries."

Davidson added that Lucs trained hard in the week, which they replicated into Saturday's game.

"It could have been another week when we just rolled in, but there was a real step change on the Tuesday night," he said.

"The attitude was good, the training all week was good and we carried it on into the game."

Davidson felt that moving Will Burton to 10 helped the team control the match.

"We were obviously limited in our kicking game when that happens, but our continuity was perfect and that is what we look to do," said Davidson.

"All the forwards stood up and there was a lot of good ball carriers, which I was especially pleased with.

"Mortimer Park needs to be a bit of a fortress for us, teams don't particularly like the extra hour coming off the motorway so we've really got to make it count at home."
