AN action-packed finals weekend at Brimfield and Little Hereford Bowling Club saw two trophies go to sudden extra ends and nine trophies up for grabs.

Alec Tandler and Steve Edwards were four shots up going into the last end of the Barnet Bowl pairs but Jimmy Lindsay and Cyril Wait clawed it back to nine-all before taking the game by two on the extra end.

Tandler must have thought the bowling gods were against him on the day as his team were five shots up going into the last end of the John Collett triples – and still lost by three. Tandler, Jennie Cole and Joe Allen led by 10 shots at the halfway mark but dropped seven shots in the last two ends to leave the game tied, the final result 22-19 in extra time.

The showpiece club championship game saw Dave Evans pick up an early pair of threes to take a commanding 12-2 lead against Karen Tandler but once into her stride Tandler, a regular at county and national level, proved too strong and took the Arthur Edwards four wood singles 21-14.

Earlier in the day, two of the previous winners of the title, Tandler and Barbara Griffiths, locked horns in the ladies’ singles.

Griffiths took a 16-8 lead on the 17th end and eased her away to finishing line by 21 shots to 12.

There was a comfortable victory in the Tandler Pairs for holders Ashley Edwards and Jennie Cole.

A six towards the end of the 21 ends game saw off the challenge of Barbara and Richard Griffiths, the match ending 23-10.

Heavy rain delayed the last four games but there was no stopping young gun Edwards who went on to seal a comfortable 21-6 victory against Richard Griffiths in the men's singles, the seventh time he has won the competition.

It was much closer in the Millennium Plate with Mike Mallett coming from behind against club captain Doug Smurthwaite to take the trophy 21-19.

Mallett and Griffiths teamed up in the final of the Albert Duval pairs, beating Robert Smith and Helen Skinner 14-9 and in the Cecil O’Boyle triples, Barbara Woodcock, Cyril Wait and Ashley Edwards overcame Doug Smurthwaite, Steve Edwards and Joe Allen 7-6.
