FORMER Hereford United manager Jamie Pitman says he is enjoying helping the young players at Pegasus Juniors after linking up with the club.

Pitman played for Pegasus against Stourport Swifts in the FA Vase First Qualifying Round last Saturday and says he got involved through his relationship with manager James Edmonds.

"I've known James for a while, he just asked me to help and get involved a little bit and may be use a bit of my experience and help some of the younger players along," said Pitman.

"Hopefully I can do that, but whether I can do that consistently is yet to be seen.

"But I certainly want to help the young individuals in the team because there are some good players at the club.

"I was a little bit rusty, but fitness was ok because I've been trying to keep myself fit for the last few years.

"I just need to get back into it and support the young boys as much as possible.

"Sooner or later your body gives up, but I'm going to play as much as I can and support James and the other boys in that process."

Pitman is an FA Skills Coach and says there are a lot of talented players in Herefordshire.

"The skills programme is getting bigger all the time, myself and Paul Hughes are trying to make it as popular as possible for all the children and we're both really passionate about trying to improve players in and around this area," said Pitman.

"I've seen some of the under-16's already and at the skills centre.

"It's a big area that is very much untouched and we're trying to improve players and coaches around the area so that we can make sure Herefordshire has some good individual talent that can hopefully go on to bigger and better things."

Midland Football League Premier Division high-fliers Stourport were a class above Pegasus and raced into a 3-0 half-time lead.

Pegasus did improve in the second half, but were always up against it and it was the away side who scored again.

"They're a good team, but we improved in the second half but were disappointed with some of the goals we gave away," said Edmonds.

"But we're in a transition period and we've got injured players coming back, so we'll be alright.

"We changed the formation in the second half and I thought we started quite well and could have got a goal back, which may have got us a foothold in the game, but it wasn't to be."

Stourport opened the scoring in the 11th minute when Ben Maund fired home from a corner.

Joe Phillips then doubled the lead 10 minutes later before Maund grabbed his second goal of the game from the penalty spot shortly before half-time following a foul from Callum Craddock.

Seconds into the second half, Pegasus striker Sam Pearson tested Stourport goalkeeper Dominic Richards with a rasping shot before Pitman clipped the top of the crossbar direct from a corner.

James Hawkins then headed over for Pegasus before Joe Robinson narrowly missed the target for Stourport.

But the away side did score again six minutes from time when James Baldwin smashed the ball home following a corner.
