A HEREFORDSHIRE teenager said it was an amazing experience to represent her country in lacrosse at the Under-19 World Championships.

Penny Green was part of the Welsh team that finished seventh in the tournament in Edinburgh.

"It was such an amazing experience and a great opportunity to be part of," said Penny, who is from Fawley, near Hoarwithy.

"It was really good fun and you get the opportunity to meet people from other countries."

The 17-year-old has been playing lacrosse for about six years and follows in her mother Sally's steps, who also played the sport.

The Under-19 World Championships is the highest standard Penny can get to for her age, but she is aiming to step up to senior level.

"I want to continue playing lacrosse and hopefully be part of the Senior World Cup in Guildford," said Penny.

And the teenager has also been offered a scholarship to go to St Joseph's University in Philadelphia, USA.

"I haven't decided yet whether I will take it yet and have a year to decide," said Penny.

"But it is a big deal to be offered it."

Sally Green added that only two other people in the UK have been offered the scholarship.

"There will be about six months worth of discussions and we will go to Philadelphia before making a final decision," said Sally.

Fifteen other countries took part in the Championships, with Wales grouped with USA, Canada, Australia and England.

Wales finished bottom of the group, but finished seventh overall after beating New Zealand and Scotland in the play-off rounds.

"It was the strongest pool and, even though we lost all of the games, it was amazing to play against those teams," added Penny.
