BROCKHAMPTON chairman Roy Wargen says it is vitally important that the team stay in the Premier Division of the Birmingham & District Premier Cricket League.

The villagers face fellow strugglers Wolverhampton this Saturday, knowing that they have to win to ensure that their destiny is in their own hands going into the final game of the season against West Bromwich Dartmouth.

And they go into the game in fine form having won their last two games.

Their latest victory was against a Berkswell side that had former England player Darren Maddy playing for them.

Maddy took 4-17 and also hit a half-century, but it was not enough as Brockhampton secured the win and a vital 20 points.

Henry Langford top scored with 43 as Brockhampton made 1q41, while Jamie McIlroy took 3-28.

Three other bowlers, including Worcestershire opener Charlie Morris, took two wickets each, to help Brockhampton secure a narrow seven-run win.

"It was a great win for us especially as Darren Maddy was playing for them, but Henry Langford made a great knock and we had Charlie Morris playing," said Wargen.

"Saturday is a big game and it is massively important to stay in the league because, in every competition, everyone wants to stay in the top flight.

"But it is not the end of the world if we do gown because Division One of the Birmingham League is still a a good league to be in."

Brockhampton saw their game against Knowle & Dorridge on Monday abandoned, while second from bottom Dorridge lost to Berkswell.

However, Dorridge still picked up seven points in the loss, while Brockhampton were only handed five, leaving the Herefordshire side just six points above them.

Eastnor's Division Two game against relegation rivals Brewood was also called off on Monday, meaning that they are still rooted to the foot of the table.

And with Brewood facing fellow strugglers Stourbridge on the final day of the season, Eastnor know that, realistically, they have to win their last two games to stay up, staying against Shifnal this Saturday.

"It was in our own hands, now it isn't," said Eastnor spokesman Malcolm Hughes.

"We won on Saturday against Stourbridge and bowled particularly well to get on top.

"But if they had put us in to bat, we may have struggled as well.

"We're 10 points adrift Brewood and the killer is that they are playing Stourbridge on the final day so one of them has got to win and will pick up 20 points.

"It's not going to be easy but we've just got to do what we have to do and win the two games."

Meanwhile, barring a mathematical miracle, Bromyard look set to get relegated from Division One of the Worcestershire County Cricket League.

Their latest collapse saw them skittled out for just 32 against Pershore, with only Edward Reece, batting at number nine, getting into double figures.

Colwall and Burghill & Tillington are placed in fifth and sixth place respectively.

However, both sides lost their matches on Saturday.
