IT will be a day to remember at Boughrood Harness Races this Sunday when a ladies drivers’ race is featured for the first time.

The event has attracted a field of nine horses, who will do battle for the Sylvia Preston and Family Trophy.

Local hopes will rest with the likes of Jess Dyer and Julie Phillips, both of whom won in good style at Allensmore recently.

Dyer will be the youngest driver in the race, and her win was her first, having only taken her test last year.

Debbie Wakefield and Sue Young will also be looking to make their experience count on Wellfield Busted and Landa Dreams.

With nearly 150 horses entered from all corners of the UK, the racing should be fast and furious.

The main £2,000 Boughrood competition will comprise of five heats, with the first two in each qualifying for the final.

One of the favourites will be Dizzy Miss Lizzy, owned by club treasurer Nigel Lewis.

She earned her place in the line-up by winning impressively last week at Allensmore.

But Lizzy won’t have it all her own way as the competition looks tough. One horse that stands out is Hail Maximus, owned by Wales and West member Rob Millicap and trained by Alan Haythornwaite. Hail Maximus won nicely at Tir Prince on Tuesday night and should be suited to the extra distance and track.

There will be bookmakers in attendance and a free bouncy castle for the children.

The action starts at 1pm.
