A TEENAGER who lit up Edgar Street last year says he cannot wait to return on Saturday.

Jarrod Bowen will be playing for Hull City's Under-21 side against Hereford FC – the new club's last friendly before starting their Midland Football League campaign.

The 18-year-old will forever be remembered by the Bulls faithful for scoring the winning goal against Alfreton Town in April 2014.

That win – and subsequent success against Aldershot Town – secured Hereford's place in the Conference Premier against the odds, only for them to be thrown out weeks later due to mounting debts.

Bowen's rise to prominence saw him join Hull City, but he says Hereford will always have a special place in his heart.

"I'm definitely looking to going back and to see a few of the players," said Bowen, who is from Leominster.

"Hereford is still in my heart and I'm always looking to see how they are doing.

"We've had got two games this weekend, Hereford on Saturday and Port Talbot on Sunday.

"But I'm hoping to get quite a bit of game time against Hereford and play at Edgar Street again."

Bowen was on the mark for Hull Under-21s in a 3-2 win Spanish side CD Torrevieja last week.

He is now aiming to push towards a first team spot this season, especially now Hull have dropped down to the Championship.

"I went into training a couple of times towards the end of last season, which was nice and everyone was very welcoming," said Bowen.

"I have to keep working hard if I want to make it."

Bowen's manager for Hereford was Pete Beadle and the teenage striker says he is looking forward to seeing him again.

"Scoring the goal against Alfreton and then the game at Aldershot is, at my age, something I will always remember and I've got to take my hat off to Pete Beadle for giving me a chance and showing faith in me," said Bowen.

"I still look to see how they are getting on and it's good to see that they have started up again.

"They had more than 4,000 for a game which is ridiculous, but it shows that everyone wants to show their support because it means a lot to people.

"I don't know much about the league they're in, but they should do well.

"A few of the players I played with have signed for them so it will be good to see them on Saturday and catch up."
