JAMES Morgan retained the Mike Lane Trophy as part of Ross Golf Club's annual Men's Stroke Play Championship.

Morgan, who was the club's 2014 Stroke Play Champion, carded a gross 70 medal score on the second to win the event over 36 holes.

Overnight leader was Harvey Hancock, who is in his first year at Ross and has already won two major events this year.

He also performed admirably in his second round to match Morgan's 147 score, but it was Morgan who got his hands on the trophy on count-back.

Third place went to 18-year-old Niall Powell with a score of 148, with Tim Wyatt a point further back in fourth.

Nick Ellis was fifth with 151, Steve Bennett sixth and David Barnard seventh.

Meanwhile, 16-year-old Sophie Price, who is the Ross Juniors captain, recently played in the Gloucestershire Girls County Championship at the Knowle Golf Club in Bristol.

She impressed everyone in finishing runner-up with 37 points and is on course to get her handicap into single figures.
