MORE than £1,000 has been raised for St Michael's Hospice again thanks to a set of twin brothers holding a charity cricket match in aid of their father.

Adam and Robert Matravers have been holding the annual event for the past four years to say thanks to the Hospice for caring for their cricket-mad dad Richard, who died from cancer in 2001.

"The initial idea started in 2012 when a group of friends got together and had a chat about memorising about my dad and how he played cricket in our school days and what a good idea it would be to have a charity match to raise money for St Michael's Hospice," said Adam.

"It seemed ideal because it was where my dad spent his final days because he died of cancer in 2001.

"Everyone seemed keen on the idea and it has grown from there.

"The initial game was a bit tricky trying to get 11 players on each side and we managed to get it down at Widemarsh Common.

"But since then we have managed to take it to different places and each year it has got better."

The latest match was held at Bartestree & Lugwardine Cricket Club, with the A.Matravers XI team triumphing by 58 runs.

"It was a brilliant wicket to play on and had a lightning fast outfield," added Adam.

"I would have been happy with 170, 180, so to score 240 odd was always going to be difficult to chase down.

"To be fair to the R. Matravers XI , they had a go, but in the end it was just too many.

"With the bat, Rob Symonds batted through the innings for an unbeaten 80, but there were a few contributions.

"Ashley Smith, who gets runs for Shirebulls, did a job at the top of the order and Tom Haynes and Luke Griffiths came in and smashed it around."

Griffiths finished unbeaten on 45, while Smith and Haynes scored 43 and 42 respectively in A.Matravers XI's total of 244-3.

Ian Morgan batted 76 for the R.Matravers XI in their total of 185-8 off 30 overs., with Chris Oleksy taking 1-2.
