BEN Owens says he is loving life at Burghill & Tillington after joining from Wormelow.

Owens was the captain of Wormelow but decided to step up a level and play for Burghill in Division One of the Worcestershire County Cricket League.

And he has certainly helped Burghill turn the corner following a tricky start to life this season.

His century last Saturday helped them beat county rivals Colwall by eight wickets that takes them further away from the relegation zone.

"I have played the last few games and we've won three out of three, but it's not just about me," said Owens.

"On paper, we've got a quite a strong squad and certainly have the potential to go up the table.

"I'm really enjoying it and everyone has been very welcoming.

"I was captain at Wormelow and felt it was time for a bit of a change.

"There is a really good atmosphere at Burghill and perhaps I lost that enjoyment before."

Colwall posted a competitive 296 with Max Backhouse (66), Nick Panniers (51) and Ben Cooke (49) all contributing.

But Owens led the way with the bat, hitting 16 boundaries in his unbeaten 117.

Sam Johnston (70) and Owen Morgan (60) also scored well that saw Burghill get to their total with 11 balls remaining.

Bromyard are now below Burghill in the league table after going down to a 70-run defeat to Belbroughton, despite a fine 65 from Greg Leighton.

Bartestree also suffered a heavy defeat against Avoncroft in Division Three, while Ross-on-Wye lost by five wickets to Kempsey in Division Four.
