SASCHA Kindred says gaining a bronze medal in the 50m butterfly gave him as much satisfaction as winning gold in the 200m individual medley at the IPC World Swimming Championships in Glasgow.

The Hereford paralympian produced some strong swimming during his seventh World Championships that takes his medal tally to to an extraordinary 61 in major championships and 11 in the 200m individual medley.

"Getting a personal best in the 50m fly set me up for the week and I was chuffed to get a medal," said Kindred, who trains at the Halo swimming pool in Leominster.

"I was a little bit disappointed with my time in the individual medley, but it's all about results and when I touched the wall in first place I was happy.

"I didn't realise they were there as I was breathing away from them, but I just got my head down and touched the wall."

Kindred held off the challenge of Columbia's Nelson Crispin and Talisson Glock of Brazil to win the medley by 0.43 seconds.

Xu Qing, who beat Kindred to gold at the London 2012 Paralympics, faded away to finish a disappointing sixth.;

Kindred is now preparing for a summer meeting in Sheffield before it's full steam ahead for Rio 2016.

The 37-year-old, who was supported in Glasgow by his wife Nyree and daughter Ella, says he still has the same buzz when competing at major events, but Rio will definitely be his swansong.

"I still have the same nerves and it still means a lot," said Kindred.

"I love swimming and I hope to bow out at the top at Rio."

Kindred also finished sixth in the 100m freestyle on Sunday.

"I was just off my personal best in that, which I was a little bit disappointed about, but I was in another world final."
