JIMMY Lindsey came out on top to be crowned the Herefordshire Seniors champion.

Lindsey's gross score of 76 pipped Wyn Owen into second place and Alan Hooper into third.

Both Lindsey and Hooper play for Leominster Golf Club, with Lindsey's win following that of fellow club member Roger Richards, who win the event last year.

Hooper also achieved the best net score with 68.

Fellow Leominster member Paul Chapman was third, with Herefordshire's Chris Cole third.

Kevin Room, also of Leominster, was top in the 55-64 years net with a score of 73, with John Hunt (Burghill) being the top placed finishing in the 65 years plus net category.

The fine performances of Lindsey, Hooper and Cadney meant that Leominster pipped Herefordshire to the team prize by five points.

Following his success the previous day, Lindsey had a gross score of 66 to win the Seniors' June Medal on a countback.

Meanwhile Leominster staged their Club Championship recently.

Placed on 36 holes over two days, the event runs next to the Ravenhill Cup, which is a best net score over 36 holes, 22 maximum.

The Country Members Cup is an 18-hole medal off 22 maximum and an 18-hole stableford off 22.

There is also an 18-hole qualifier medal off 28 maximum.

Heavy rain hit some of the later starters, including Kevin Gibbons, who has won the trophy six times and was going for three consecutive wins.

He put down a marker with a round of 69, with Richard Maloney Jr his nearest rival on 73.

The next day, Gibbons shot 73 for a double round of 142, beating Andy Merrick 9150) into second place.

Doug Hill won the Ravenhill Cup with a score of 135, with Jamie Griffiths retaining the Country Members Cup and Keanu Barrett taking home the Ford Bridge Cup.
