THE Year 10 boy's team at the Bishop of Hereford's Bluecoat School won the Schools FA Cup final for the first time by beating city rivals Whitecross Sports Academy 7-3.

James Hancocks led the way with a hat-trick, with further goals coming from Josh Taylor, Harry Simpson, Adam Hockey and Louis Griffith-Walker.

Whitecross replied with strikes from Tom Nunn and Brandon Jennings.

This season saw the introduction of a football pitch at Bishops for the first time in 55 years.

The PE department allocated the pitch, but funds had to be sought for goal posts, kit and equipment.

Start-of-the-art movable posts were provided by Gig Stansfield and the Adam Stansfield Foundation, with Watkins and Thomas estate agents sponsoring the kits for years nine to 11. Junior kits were sponsored by Edu Tech, with Hereford Lions Club and Hereford Round Table helping out with other equipment.

Whitecross Under16s were crowned Herefordshire School champions though, meaning they picked up the shield for the fifth year running.

There was better news for Whitecross School's girls team, who dominated the county scene.

The team scored an incredible 27 goals in total, with the under-12s, under-14s and under-16 teams being crowned Herefordshire champions.

The under-12's beat Hereford Academy 2-0 to win their trophy, while the Under-14s thrashed the same school 14-0.

The under-16's success came courtesy of a 14-2 win against Weobley High School.

The girls train every week, with the under-16s being together since they were at under-12 level.

"It'll be sad to see them leave as they been an outstanding team to work with and will be missed," said Whitecross School PE teacher Jade Watkins.
