ANDY Gray is the new Hereford Snooker League singles champion following a thrilling final against hot favourite Stuart Roberts.

The best of five frame final was played at Hereford Military Club, which preceded the league's annual presentation of trophies.

Roberts has won the title several times in recent years and was considered favourite to take the title again having been in splendid form.

But Gray had other ideas and thrilled the crowd with a superb display of potting.

Roberts was under pressure and produced some excellent safety play, but Gray kept his cool, notching a delightful 50 plus break in one of the frames.

Gray won the match three frames to one.

This year's Division 1 winners were Leominster outfit The Legionaires, who beat Shedloads by just one point.

This is a particularly fine display by The Legionaires because they were involved in a play-off at the end of last season to avoid relegation.

Pot Idols took the Division 2 honours, just a point ahead of Railway A team.

Pot Idols were relegated at the end of last season and have now earned promotion back to the first division.

The Champion of Champions competition saw the four winners of the divisional and team knockout competitions facing off.

After the three matches, Pot Idols and Nowheremen finished level on the number of frames won.

But the victory went to Nowheremen having scored more points in all frames played.
