ANYONE interested to learn how to play volleyball are being encouraged to pop along to Whitecross High School in Hereford this Saturday.

The "go spike - big weekend' will take place from 11am to 4pm and is free to enter.

Hereford Volleyball Club member Chris Gwizdziel said that the sport is growing in the county, with his club due to join West Midlands Regional League Division 3.

"We are going to join the league in September and have a men's team," said Gwizdziel.

"We are struggling a bit with the ladies, so would love some more to join us.

"We have now got 46 members taking part and is getting bigger and bigger.

"We have our t-shirts sponsored by Hereford Round Table, with Helping Hand in Ledbury sponsoring the event on Saturday."

Gwizdziel added that he is confident that Hereford will hold their own in the league.

"We played a game against Cleobury recently and we beat them," he said.

"They will finish first in their league, so we have got a really good chance."

Gwizdziel added that Hereford and Cleobury will both be playing on Saturday, as well as teams from Brecon, Ross and Aylestone and Whitecross School.

"It will be a family day and we there will be a BBQ and bouncy castle, with cup cakes being sold," he said.

"There will be at least three to four matches on the day and a school game."
