BROCKHAMPTON chairman Roy Wargen says the team will get better once they are able to field a fully-strength squad.

The villagers were skittled out for just 33 against Walmley in their Birmingham & District Premier Cricket League Premier Division match last Saturday.

"We haven't had a full squad yet and may be we need another seamer," said Wargen.

"But our Australian player, Danny Irvine, will play on Saturday.

"We knew we were going to a struggle a bit this year and lost our captain Ben Stebbings.

"Tom Austwick also cannot commit at the moment, but Henry Langford has come back from Wiltshire.

"The players know it's hard cricket and that these people are semi-professional sportspeople.

"May be we got to where we are a bit quickly.

"We always wanted to get to the Birmingham League and thought it would take five years to get to Division 1 or 2, but in two years we're in the Premier Division.

"We want to consolidate this year, but we'll be fine."

Wargen also dismissed Walmley's claim that the match was played on a poor wicket.

"There was no mud at all, it was just damp.

"But Herefordshire Minors Cricket played on it the next day and made 170-2.

"They just bowled exceptionally well."

After being put into bat, Walmley found themselves 13-3 after Chris Boroughs and Jamie McIlroy dismissed Danial Chaudhry, Tom Burton and George Allen.

Further wickets soon tumbled to leave Walmley 48-6 before Michael Waugh went for 17.

Harshad Patel then caught Shozair Ali off Matthew Veale's delivery, but Kasir Shah's fine batting ensured Walmley eventually made 156.

If Brockhampton made a good start to their bowling, Walmley made an even better one, as first Patel, then Langford soon went to leave the Herefordshire 9-2.

The home side were finding runs incredibly hard to come by, with only Boroughs managing to get any inroads.

But he soon went for nine, before Brockhampton lost the wickets of Nicholas Powell, Joe Crichard, Jack Aldous-Fountain and Chris Powell to leave them 24-7.

Veale, Charlie Scott and George Hill were then the last three wickets to go as Walmley celebrated a comprehensive 123-run win.

Extras once again cost Eastnor as they succumbed to a 39-run defeat to Tamworth in Division 2.

Tareq Jamil bowled 14 of Eastnor's 26 wide deliveries, with a further eight leg byes and two no balls called.

Tamworth made 230-9 off their 50 overs (Neil Orton top scoring with 71) before Eastnor were bowled out for 191.

Amazingly, Atiq Ur Rehman scored 109 of Eastnor's runs, with the next highest scorer being Jamil (24).

It was better news for Eastnor 2nd, who beat Ombersley by 76 runs.
