WELLINGTON suffered penalty shoot-out heartbreak last night as they lost a dramatic West Midlands (Regional) League Division 1 Cup final to Cradley Town at Wolverhampton Casuals last night.

The villagers lost 6-5 after Joe Davies missed his penalty.

The game finished 0-0 after extra-time.

"It was a good game for a 0-0, but the lads are gutted," said Wellington manager Derek Williams.

Cradley had the better of the chances in the first half, which resulted in Wellington goalkeeper Chris Manciu pulling off a couple of good saves.

Wellington's best opportunites fell to Steve Brotherwood and Matt Aubrey.

Will Perkins then a great chance to open the scoring for Wellington after the break, but took too long getting his shot in and Cradley intercepted.

Cradley were awarded a penalty in the first minute of extra-time, but the ball hit the bar before a Cradley player headed it into the net.

But because no other player had touched the ball, the goal was disallowed and a free-kick awarded to Wellington.

It was then end-to-end stuff, but neither side could break the deadlock and the tie went to penalties.

Manciu saved Cradley's first spot-kick, with Wellington converting their first three.

But Ben Thomas missed for Wellington, leading to Cradley levelling.

Matt Williams scored his penalty for the villagers, but when Joe Davies missed, the momentum swung back to Cradley.

They successfully took the opportunity to win the shoot-out and grab hold of the trophy.
