THE first round of the National Microlight Championship take place this weekend at Shobdon Airfield.

The event consists of navigation, fuel economy and precision flying tasks.

The precision flying tasks in particular can be spectacular to watch and will be conducted in clear veiw of all spectators, while the slalom event with short landing into a 100mm box will be particularly exiting on Saturday afternoon.

There will be many international British pilots, European and current World Champions, as well as a healthy contingent of newcomers on display in numerous types of flexing and fix wing airplanes.

This round is the first of five taking place through the country this year to crown the British Champions in dual and single seat classes and determine the British Team make up to compete in the European Microlight Championships in Poland later this year/.

The World Air Games in Dubai in December and the World Microlight Championships to be held in the UK next year.

There will be microlight pleasure flights held throughout the weekend by Swift Light Flight Microlight School based at Shobdon, and everyone is welcome to come and watch.
