LUCTONIANS director of rugby Alex Davidson said that the defeat against Chester was two points lost rather than two gained.

Lucs had victory in their hands with only 10 minutes to go, but pressure by the away team led to them scoring a try, which was easily converted.

Davidson's team now go into Saturday's away clash against Harrogate knowing they have to win to ensure their destiny is still in their own hands.

"I think it's two points lost, but you've got to be positive and say it's two points gained at the same time," said Davidson.

"Chester are at the top of the middle bunch and have lost 12 games this season.

"But the game was the there for the taking."

Davidson was frustrated with the amount of errors his team made, which he said ultimately cost them victory.

"The sun was out, the grass was green, but I told them don't play sevens because we've got a job to do, whereas Chester could afford to do that because they did their work earlier in the season," he said.

"But we did do that, we probably made 12 to 14 individual errors and unfortunately we can't afford those."

Davidson targeted two wins out of Luctonians' last three games and knows his team must now win their last two to definitely stay up.

"I said two wins out three, but in terms of points, I wanted 10 to make sure we're safe which takes us to 60," said Davidson.

"So to not perform and still pick up two in that battle is better than it possibly could have been.

This Saturday's game will be played at Otley due to Harrogate's ground being sold.

"It's not a home game for Harrogate, nor for us obviously," said Davidson.

"Our history at Otley is very positive and we've had some good results there.

"It holds good memories for us, so we have no fears going back up there and if anything it's probably a bonus for us."
