LEOMINSTER Town’s under 12 footballers did a “Dutch double” over the Easter break to come back home with two convincing tournament triumphs in Holland.
The boys won seven of their eight games played across two single day tournaments, scoring 18 goals and conceding just two against age group sides from Holland and Germany.
It was a display that saw them presented with a set of Dutch national shirts.
Team boss Nick Barnett said the boys earned plenty of touchline praise for their performances and determination.
“And when the Dutch praise the way you play, you’re doing something right,” he said.
The team’s record in full:
April 4 - FC Aalsmeer Tournament
Leo Town 3.0 Aalsmeer
Leo Town 1.0 FC Rotterdam
Leo Town 3.0 FC Nieuwkoop
Leo Town 3.0 FC Laakwatier
April 4 - FC Zoetermeer
Leo Town 3.1 FC Zoetermeer
Leo Town 1.0 FC Hertha BSC '68
Leo Town 4.0 Fc DWl
Leo Town 0.1 FC Excelsior
Leominster Town’s Dutch double follows the success of Leominster Primary School’s under-12s who won plaudits for an unbeaten display at the recent regional finals of the English Schools’ Football Association Danone Nations Cup tournament in Nottingham.
There, the boys won one and drew four of their five games.
