GOALKICKING sensation Louis Silver will make a welcome return to Luctonians this weekend as the Mortimer Park club start the first of three "cup finals" in their bid to preserve their National League 2 North status.

Silver has been key to Lucs' recent upturn in fortune, but missed their last game at Hull Ionians.

But the scrum-half is set to play for the home clash against Chester, along with fellow returnee Ricky Davies.

Following the Chester game, Luctonians travel to Otley to face Harrogate before facing Leicester Lions in the final game of the season.

Either Lucs (50 points), Birmingham &?Solihull (50) or Hull (48) look set to go down alongside already doomed Stockport, though Leicester (58) and Preston Grasshoppers (54) still aren’t safe.

Luctonians director of coaching Alex Davidson says: “The line between staying up or going down is a fragile one but to have two home games out of three to finish is a plus.

“Our home form has been good of late and not many teams really enjoy visiting us out in the sticks as we are.

"We have a young squad who have progressed well this season, the youth policy at the club is good and we need to keep investing in that.

“We are positive and confident we can finish the job but it would nice to do it in the next two games so we can relax and enjoy the final fixture with Leicester.”

Hull are at home to Sedgley Park this weekend and Birmingham &?Solihull travel to Caldy.

Then the following week the two relegation battlers meet each other, which can only be to the benefit of Luctonians.

However Davidson is concentrating on what Luctonians do rather than results elsewhere.

He added: “The crowd can play their part, and now that the weather seems to be improving, it always adds a few to the gate.

“They can make a big difference and we hope they really get behind the team in the last two home matches.”
