A HAY-on-Wye man put the pain of crashing to one side to win the 'Tough One' hard enduro event.

Danny Thomas had to race across a quarry at Nantmawr, near Oswestry, for as many laps as possible within two hours.

But the 28-year-old's dreams of winning the clubman class for the first time were almost shattered when he crashed on his sixth lap.

However, Thomas, who is a chainsaw carver, managed to get bake on his bike to win by 16 seconds.

"I have been doing the event for the last five years, but this was my first year in the clubman class," said Thomas.

"You have to run to your bike before riding as many laps as you can.

"I did seven laps, but went over the handle bars on the sixth and landed on a rock.

"I was laid down for a minute and it shook me up.

"But I got back on to complete the race.

"I had bruising and muscle pain, but only really felt it after the race."

Thomas, who has finished second and third in the event in previous years, beat Mathew Solan to second place, with Will Emery coming third.

Jordan Ridgeway was leading the race, but had to pull out die to bike problems.

Thomas' next event will be in the British Championship round at Radnor Forest.
