HEREFORD County Table Tennis second team have thrown a cat amongst the pigeons in the Veteran Division 4D after becoming the first team to take a point off league favourites Kent.

The team picked up an impressive three points out of a possible six at the Kingfisher Table Tennis Club in Reading over the weekend of March 14th and 15th in their final set of fixtures for the season.

Against Kent 6th team, Hereford seconds fought back valiantly from 4-2 down to earn a draw, with the match score finishing 5-5.

After trailing 4-2 in matches, Harry Jutle and Nigel Foreshew battled hard in the men’s doubles to earn a victory, winning a mammoth first set 18-16 to give the team a lifeline.

After Steve Knight won his match, Foreshaw then beat the Kent number one to give Hereford the lead for the first time.

However Knight and partner Pauline Hart could not complete the victory in the final match, despite having taken an early lead by winning the first set.

Harry Jutle said: “We did a lot better than expected. Kent were favourites for the league but as the first team to take points off them we’ve opened the league up and sent a cat amongst the pigeons.”

Against the Hertfordshire 6th team, Hereford went one step better as they completed a dramatic comeback from 4-2 down to win 6-4 and scoop all two points.

After trailing 4-2, Harry Jutle and Nigel Foreshaw clicked together again, winning their match in three sets after triumphing in a marathon second set 16-14.

Jutle then won his match in four sets to draw scores level, before Foreshaw gave Hereford the lead with a win against Hertfordshire’s number one.

Knight and partner Pauline Hart sealed the victory in a dramatic final match in the mixed doubles.

After going two sets to one behind, the pair came back to win the fourth at deuce and the final set, clinching Hereford a six match to four victory and all two points.
