HEREFORD 2nd finished their season with a 3-0 defeat against high-flyers Bourton and Sherbourne in Severn Division 1 of the West Clubs' Women's Hockey League.

The city club have adapted well in the division following promotion and finished in eighth place.

Coach Sue Moody said that the younger players in the team performed well this season.

"Alice Steel, Megan Rivett, Ellie Westoby and Kelly Higgins have developed into strong players," she said.

"Tia Taylor and Ellie Baxter quickly progressed to the first team after Christmas and Hereford's more experienced players have supported and encouraged the youngsters well.

"It looks promising for next season."

Moody added that Lucy Debenham was the team's player of the season.

Two places above Hereford 2nd in sixth place are Colwall & Malvern, who suffered a disappointing 3-0 defeat against strugglers Badgers last Saturday.

They finish their campaign with a home game against second-placed Blockley this weekend.

Hereford's first team drew 2-2 at home to Chippenham to leave them fifth in the Premier Division 2A table.

They finish their season with a trip to league leaders Team Bath Buccaneers 2nd this Saturday.

In North Division, Leominster went down 4-1 to Lansdown to leave them seventh in the table.

They travel to Gloucester 2nd, who are one place below them, this Saturday.

Elsewhere, Ross-on-Wye drew 1-1 with Stroud 2nd in Severn Division 2, while Colwall & Malvern 2nd were thrashed 5-0 at home to Bourton & Sherborne 2nd.

And in Premier 2 of the South Wales Hockey League, Presteigne lost 4-3 to Barry and Kington went down 4-0 at Newport Gwent 2nd.
