TEN-MAN Pegasus Juniors dug deep to become only the second team this season to take points off runaway West Midlands (Regional) League Premier Division leaders Sporting Khalsa.

The Willenhall-based league leaders, nine points clear at the summit with four games in hand on their nearest challengers AFC Bridgnorth, were kept at bay by a dogged Pegasus side, who battled for a hard-earned 0-0 draw, despite having Ben Price sent off late in the first half for two harsh bookings, for diving and kicking the ball away.

Sam Pearson ran his socks off as Pegasus’s lone striker and very nearly nicked all three points late in the game.

It was only the second time free-scoring Khalsa had failed to find the net at the Aspray Arena this season - the previous occasion was when Pegasus drew 0-0 there in the FA Cup back in August.

Wellington, who play Sporting Khalsa in the semi-finals of the WML Premier Division Cup, also fought out a goalless deadlock at Black Country Rangers.

They overcame a shaky start that saw Craig Hill pull off a couple of good saves to match the home side blow for blow.

William Mohan almost had cause to celebrate a debut goal with a volley that flew just over the bar, and Steve Brotherwood, Wellington’s only recognised striker in an injury-hit line-up, saw a goalbound free-kick pushed away for a corner.

Luke Winter and Jamie Yau also went close and Black Country Rangers hit the Wellington woodwork, but neither side were able to conjure up a winner.

Wellington were at Smethwick Rangers last night (Wednesday).

Bartestree are the only county side left in the Division One Cup after they toppled rivals Hereford Lads Club 2-1.

The villagers are now through to the quarter-finals, where they will face Trysull.

Bromyard Town are also out of the competition after the league leaders surprisingly went down 4-3 at home to Penncroft.

Meanwhile, Kington Town have stretched their unbeaten run in Division 2 following a mad few minutes in their game against Bartley Green Illey.

Kington came from 2-0 down to win 3-2, with two late penalties awarded.

Town, who had won 1-0 at Bartley Green the previous week, saw themselves trailing 2-0 at half-time.

Manager Shaun Harris therefore pushed midfield Dale Hodge forward after the break and it paid dividends.

After Brian Dyer had pulled a goal back with a superb dipping drive, the tricky Hodge was upended in the box and Mayglothing stepped up to convert the penalty.

Then in injury time, a bizarre incident resulted in both the Bartley goalkeeper and goalscorer Dyer being sent off and another penalty awarded as a result.

After a long delay for treatment to Dyer, Mayglothing kept his cool to beat the stand-in keeper and snare three vital points.

"We haven't been at our best over the last two games, but it's important that we're still winning games," said Harris.
