PEGASUS Juniors recorded a comprehensive 3-0 victory in their West Midlands Regional League Premier Division clash against Shifnal Town at Old School Lane.

The home side signalled their intent from the off with Anthony Robbins testing visiting keeper Tom Whittaker with a vicious shot early on.

In-form striker Sam Pearson opened the scoring when he powerfully fired the ball past Whittaker after an inviting cross from Kiea Cowley after just 18 minutes.

The industrious Cowley almost got a second assist under his belt as the half wore on, but could only watch on as Chris Mortlock's effort was turned behind for a corner.

Cowley then scored himself from the resulting corner after being picked out by Robbins.

Pearson made it 3-0 immediately after the restart after finding himself unmarked inside the box.

Shifnal tried to salvage a consolation goal but it was Pegasus who looked the most likely to add to the scoreline.

Pearson went close to grabbing a hat trick, but fired over the cross bar when well placed.

With 25 minutes to go, Shifnal were awarded a penalty after Mark Davis was controversially adjudged to have fouled Dan Biggins in the box.

But Nathan Phillips was up to his task by saving Bekir Halil's spot-kick.

It was Phillips' fourth penalty save this season.

As the clock ran down, Shifnal saw another chance go begging, this time Biggins stabbing the ball wide with only Phillips to beat.

The result sees Pegasus climb a place to 12th in the league table.
