THE biggest school run rugby sevens tournament is to take place in Hereford this Sunday.

A total of 32 teams will descend on Wyeside for a day-long affair that starts at 10.20am.

Ex-Wales international Paul Thorburn, who studied at Hereford Cathedral is special guest, while a lunch will also be laid on.

"I have been chairman for 4 years and made the decision to increase the teams as some of the major schools were sending their B teams but are now sending the As," said Richard Skyrme.

"Millfield have been the most successful school since 1977 and having seen them on Sunday at Brecon, I would say they certainly start as favourites.

"It attracts a large crowd and some fantastic current players have played at the tournament.

"I have attended the Marches 7s as a player, Old Herefordian and as a member of staff since the very first tournament, so it is with great honour that I am helping to continue the tradition of the Marches."

"There have been many wonderful school boy rugby players at Wyeside, such as Dominic Shaboo (Wellington College) Anthony Allen, Olly Morgan (Millfield) Luke Narraway ( Kings Worcester) Hallam Amos (Monmouth) and Jamie Roberts (Glantaf) and I hope the list on the ‘Roll of Honour’ page will be of interest and continue to grow."

Hereford Cathedral School (HCS) will start proceedings against Sir Thomas Rich's from Gloucester, with games taking place on four pitches simultaneously.

There will be eight groups, with the quarter-finals starting after lunch at 2.20pm.

The final will then be at about 4.50pm, with presentations held afterwards.

HCS go into the tournament on the back of a seven's seven's held in Brecon.

The team lost 29-5 to Millfield in the semi-final after beating Glantaff, Cheltenham College and Rydal in the group stages.
