MONEY raised at an international boxing show in Hereford went towards a charity that helps parents with funeral costs after losing a child on the road.

The ELY Memorial Fund was named after Emma Louise Young, who lost her life following a crash on the A438 at Trumpet in September 2010.

The 23-year-old, from Tupsley, Hereford, looked after young children and young adults with special needs.

Because she did not write a will or have life insurance, Emm'as family were faced with the task of raising £5,000 towards her funeral costs.

"That is why ELY was set up as a charity to help those families at a crucial time when they have lost a son a daughter aged between 17 and 25 in a car accident," said Emma's parents Ange and Steve Tyler.

"We will offer a one off condolence payment of £2,000 towards funeral costs."

Coach Vince McNally said the organisers were keen to raise awareness of the charity.

"One of the main things we wanted to do was publicise them and make people more aware of what that is about and try and help those families in crisis who have lost loved ones on the roads," he said.

"It's a very good local charity and we wanted to raise awareness and hopefully raise a lot of money.
