COACH Vince McNally says he cannot wait for another evening of high-quality boxing in Hereford this Saturday.

The city’s Sixth Form College will once again be the setting for an international showpiece between England and Wales.

The national boxing press will be in attendance, with highlights from the show set to be broadcast to hundreds of thousands of people.

“We are being told by the producers that between 300,000 to 500,000 people will be watching the show when it’s broadcast, with just under 500 people watching the show live,” said McNally, who runs Wye Police ABC in Hinton with Richard Roberts and is co-organising the event.

England will be defending the Hereford Times Cup after defeating Wales 7-3 at last year’s event.

Between six to eight bouts are set to thrill the sell-out audience, with a women’s fight scheduled.

Charlene Jones, who was the first girl boxer to fight for Wales in the Commonwealth Games, will face Sarah Dunne, who boxed in the European Championships.

ABA finalist Jack Daniel also takes on hard-hitting Welsh boxer Nico Morrison. Jordan Thompson, who will be representing England, said he is excited about representing his country in Hereford.

“It’s one of the highlights of the amateur season to be selected,” said Thompson.

“It’s going to be a fantastic show and I’m very proud to be part of it.”

McNally said the show would not be as successful as it is without the hard work of all the organisers.

“Without the Sixth Form Club and the Rotary Club, it wouldn’t work," he said.

“Both teams are desperate to win the Hereford Times Cup and we’re looking forward to hosting the national squad at our gym before the show. To see the athletes at the highest level working with the national coaches is the best experience we could ever have as coaches."

The chief executive of England ABA is Mark Abberley, who is a former Hereford Sixth Form student.

Last year, Abberley brought Commonwealth Gold medallist Scott Fitzgerald to the college in preparation of the show and praised the work that McNally and his team do.

Proceeds of the show will go towards the ELY Memorial Fund, a charity who help families with funeral costs after losing a child in a road traffic accident.
