HEREFORDSHIRE Badminton Academy members Brandon Adams and Will McGill have made history by becoming the first pair from the county to win a national badminton tournament.

The duo beat Oxfordshire's Peter Vickers and Isaac Woods to take home the title at the England National Bronze Under-15 badminton tournament held at Hereford Academy.

Herefordshire Badminton Academy organised the event, which was the first time such an event has been held in the county and attracted 50 children from across England and Wales.

Adams was unable to take part in the boys singles however, while McGill was knocked out in the quarter-finals by Amrit Brar.

Brar went on to win the prize by beating Sam Hedges in an all Avon final.

Rosheen Postlewhite from Wiltshire proved formidable throughout the girls singles competition and overpowered Amie Whiteman from Abergavenny.

And the girls doubles was won by Oxfordshire's Maisie Marriott and Bronwyn Ready, who overcame sisters Lucy and Amie Whiteman.

Rachel McGill, chairman of Herefordshire Badminton Academy, said that all the players from the county who took part should be proud of their achievements.

"The small army of volunteers made it a great day and the Badminton Academy continues to go from strength to strength with juniors as young as seven signing up to play each week," she said.

The under-13 National Bronze competition will be held at Hereford Academy on Saturday, February 28.
